Drawing 24

Hope
My mother has a rule of life: “If I know that the world will end tomorrow, I will still water my plants today.” This drawing reminds me of that. For me, the flower of Hillel is the sign of hope, which grows with love and attention. And the vine along the stem resembles the fairy tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. So you do have to climb a bit, that ain’t easy, but once you reach the flower it is a paradise.

It seems like a metaphor for hope that ultimately wins, when peace comes and you as a child can be just a child again. We live in times where hope seems to be very far away. A time in which we all long for freedom. For me, the child above the grass on the left, who makes a horizontal jump, is a symbol of freedom. It is a drawing that makes me very happy. I hope you too.
